About The Band Collective

The Band Collective is a family-owned business dedicated to delivering high-quality school band programs across primary and high schools in Sydney. We’re passionate about music education — our Primary Program builds strong foundations through weekly ensemble rehearsal and small-group tutorials, while our High School Program brings experienced young musicians together to grow as performers within a full band.

Our Commitment

Our Commitment to Excellence

Book Your First Lesson

We believe in the transformative power of music. Our commitment is two-fold:

  • High-Quality Tuition: We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional instrumental tuition that gives students the highest standard of music education.
  • Holistic Growth: Our group environment fosters significant social development, teaching students valuable collaboration, discipline, and teamwork skills alongside their musical practice.

Guided by Passion

The Band Collective is led by Owner Brenden Millard, a long-time advocate who has identified the amazing growth opportunities that quality school band programs bring to students. This passion drives our mission to make music accessible and rewarding for all participants.

Music for Life

Our vision extends beyond the classroom. We focus on fostering the enjoyment of music for life by building strong partnerships in the community. These collaborations provide essential extension pathways, allowing students to continue playing and enjoying music well beyond their school years.

Mission

The Band Collective Mission Statement

To provide high-quality, accessible, and comprehensive band programs and instrumental tuition that foster excellence in music education, support the social and personal growth of every student, and instil a lifelong enjoyment of music.

Brenden Millard: Owner & Music Director

A true Sydney native, Brenden Millard’s journey in music began at the age of 8 when he first picked up the clarinet. Hailing from a family deeply rooted in music—a passion passed down from his grandparents to his mother, and then to his siblings—Brenden was destined to catch the music bug.

His instrumental expertise expanded at age 12 when he joined the family dance band, quickly transitioning to the Tenor Saxophone. Brenden is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, proficient across all woodwinds including the Flute, Clarinets, and Saxophones, with skill also extending to Oboe and Bassoon.

Brenden credits his lifelong dedication to music to the opportunities provided by his school band, particularly being part of the Camden High School band tour to Japan in 1994. This profound experience ignited his commitment to ensuring other students have similar growth opportunities through The Band Collective.

A Leader in Community Music

Beyond The Band Collective, Brenden is a highly respected figure in the Sydney concert band scene. He currently serves as the Associate Conductor for both the Camden Community Band and the Wollondilly Community Band, and is a proud member of the Castle Hill Wind Orchestra’s North West Wind Ensemble’s clarinet section under the esteemed James Brice OAM.

His deep expertise is also recognised at the state level; Brenden has served on the NSW Band Association Management Committee and currently contributes to the Test Music Selection Panel. As an accomplished performer, he is a former champion, notably winning the NSW Open Clarinet State Champion title in 1996.

This comprehensive musical background, combined with his parallel skill as the repair technician and owner of Reeds and More in Southwest Sydney, gives Brenden a unique, holistic perspective—from the instruments themselves to the highest levels of performance and education.

The Band Collective Family

The passion for music is truly a family affair. Brenden’s wife, Leia, is an accomplished musician herself, playing both the Clarinet and Saxophone. Following in their parents’ footsteps, their children also play instruments, reinforcing the fact that The Band Collective is founded on a genuine family love for music and the value of musical education.
